Accessible and Adaptive Golf

Candlewood welcomes all golfers with disabilities and mobility challenges. Recently, we have made our golf course even more accommodating to ensure that golfers with disabilities are able to enjoy our course. From Holes 2 through 7, we have created entrances to tee boxes, fairways, and greens that are specifically marked as “Accessible Entrance Only.” (The signs are blue and white on a blue pole.) In addition, we have two (2) Paramobile golf carts which are designed to help wheelchair users discover a new and unimagined level of freedom and independence on the golf course.

Please Note ...

  • Please let our Starter know before you check in that you will need an orange “accessible flag” for your golf cart.
  • The use of the Paramobile will require a brief training before you can use it for a round. Please call 860.354.9359 ext 3 for more details and to set up a training session.
  • In the event of severe weather, unexpected course conditions, or for golfer safety; accessible entrance points and use of Paramobile may be temporarily suspended or access rules may be modified.

Sharing the Vision for All to Stand Up and Play

The Stand Up and Play Foundation was formed to help wheelchair users and other people with impaired mobility have the opportunity to stand up and participate in sporting, artistic and other daily events.

The Stand Up and Play Foundation is a volunteer-based 501(c)3 nonprofit organization that is changing the lives of wheelchair users and other individuals with disabilities with a remarkable piece of equipment – the Paramobile – that allows them to stand up and play sports and engage in everyday activities. We provide the unique combination of the Paramobile, adaptive equipment and well trained volunteers to give users unimagined levels of freedom and independence.

Here at Candlewood, We are the second golf course in the State of Connecticut to acquire an on site Paramobile Golf Cart. Currently we have 3 - 2 of which are Candlewoods and 1 which is from "national" that is used here and is available for demos/off site tours. We actively promote Golf As Therapy through our chapter "Candlewood Valley CC Chapter of The Stand Up And Play Foundation."

Your Financial Support helps our local volunteer based Chapter fund the Paramobile and assists in expanding Paramobile programs. All donations are welcome and they are tax deductible.
